New Years Eve at the Theme Parks

Added: Oct 11, 2011
Category: Night Life

Christmas is a magical time to be in Orlando whether you visit the Theme Parks on Christmas Day itself, stay by the pool at your villa and cook that extra special meal or dine out at one of the many fantastic restaurants. Remember for the latter although you cannot reserve tables several of them, TGI Fridays amongst them, allow you to phone ahead and put your name on the waiting list.

Then for New Year’s Eve there is plenty of choice:

At Epcot you can see a special version of IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth, the laser-light spectacular featuring dancing flames and cascading fountains all played out to fantastic music and taking place twice nightly. On this day Epcot usually opens at 9. 00am and does not close until 1. 00am. IllumiNations usually take place at about 7. 30p and 11. 45pm.

At Disney’s Hollywood Studios a real must see is Fantasmic! which sadly no longer takes place every night as it used to. Be sure to get to the venue early as this attraction gets very crowded and you will be treated to a wonderful spectacle of water animation, lasers and fireworks. In previous years this has usually happened about 6. 30pm but check on line first as they may put two shows on.

Still at Hollywood Studios there are usually live music performances once an hour during the evening by the Sorcerer’s Hat. Be sure to visit the Osborne Family of Lights show whilst here. Then you can also enjoy a spectacular firework show just before midnight. This park should be open from 9. 00am until just after midnight.

Disney' s Animal Kingdom is open from 9 a. m. to 7 p. m. this is unusual as this Park usually closes at 5. 00pm Mid afternoon do not miss Mickey’s Jingle Jungle Parade this is a special parade for Christmas and I believe the last one takes place on New Year’s Eve.

Younger ones should be taken to Magic Kingdom where they have the choice of one of the afternoon parade which this year is called Mickey' s Once Upon a Christmastime and takes place at noon and 3. 30pm. For those with loads of stamina and whose little ones can stay awake there is a fabulous pyrotechnics parade usually about 8. 30pm with a grand finale Fantasy in the Sky fireworks just before midnight. This Park opens at 9. 00am closing at 1. 00am.

This year, 2009, at Magic Kingdom Disney is holding a new two hour all you can eat Dinner and Dessert Party at the Tomorrowland Terrace Noodle Station between 6:30 and 8:30 p. m. The menu includes breads, fruit, cheeses, sushi, salads, seared tuna, beef short-ribs and carved pork. There will also be a child-friendly section available during the party. A wide-range of desserts and non alcoholic rinks will be available. I think it would be wise to make reservations if you are thinking of dining here.

All year round is magical at Disney but New Years Eve is very special
